By 1935, the network of railways serving Western Manitoba had reached their zenith. Elimination began in 1936 when the Great Northern discontinued operation between Brandon and the American boundary. At the same time, lessening patronage on Canadian National and Canadian Pacific regional branches brought about abolition of many small town agencies and, finally, total passenger service everywhere except along the trans-continental routes.
